Why Yoga & Meditation Should Be a Priority in Your Life
At the height of my grief, I felt so lost and disconnected, overwhelmed by loneliness and a sense of worthlessness. These were all classic signs that I needed to turn inward, to meditate and reconnect with my body. Interestingly, it was during this time that nature itself seemed to guide my healing - providing sunlight for vitamin D, obviously vital for your wellbeing, offering the grounding presence of the earth barefoot beneath my feet. It was then that I began tree hugging, a practice I cherish to this day. The bigger the trunk, the better.
What became even more profound was the internal shift. I began to slow down, and the whirlwind of chaotic thoughts started to settle, becoming more manageable. Yoga played a crucial role in this transformation. It’s a fascinating practice, as it centers around breath control and posture, drawing attention to the vital rhythm of breathing while aligning both the body and mind. Through yoga, I found a way to regulate not just my breath but my thoughts, bringing a sense of calm and clarity that I so desperately needed.
I didn't feel confident to join a class as an amateur, so I started my journey with Adriene. She's a yoga teacher that gives free classes on her YouTube page called Yoga with Adriene. A beautiful soul with a huge selection of video's.
Within weeks I was feeling the benefits. Sleeping better, feeling happier, and my brain was not feeling as stressed out. Its definitely a practice that encourages and guides you to become the best version of yourself. Meditating in particular played a vital role in pulling me out of the chronic state flight or fight mode, each day revealing subtle improvements. I was also mastering the art of breath work and learning how to take deep, restorative breaths that invigorate both body and mind. This newfound connection to my breath became a powerful tool, allowing me to approach life’s challenges with a renewed sense of composure and clarity. These practices definitely elevated my overall wellbeing and happiness.
